What
is Reflexology?
Reflexology
is a science based on the principle that reflexes or
areas of the feet, hands and other parts of the body relate to the
internal organs and other structures in the body. Through the skilful
application of pressure to specific points in the feet, hands and ears,
reflexology helps to achieve balance in the body.
Practised in diverse cultures for centuries, reflexology is much more
than a foot massage. For either preventative care or in response to
physical or emotional distress, reflexology creates physical changes
that can bring about balance, ease and healing.
How
does it work?
We
have over 7,000 nerve endings on the soles of our feet, making them
quite sensitive and responsive to reflexology treatments.
If
you are stressed, overworked or injured, a reflexologist can send a calm
and intentional message to the nervous system by skilfully touching the
feet. Reflexology uses the innate healing powers of the body to heal
itself. Reflexology promotes relaxation and letting go of tension.
Beyond relaxation, reflexology improves circulation, boosting the supply
of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and other tissues.
Reflexology
speeds up the elimination of waste products and lactic acid. Muscle,
tension and soreness is reduced and healing time for injuries or illness
is decreased. Immune function, skin tone and the ability to concentrate
also improve when circulation is increased.
